Mini Youth Games
Medway RFC is looking forward to welcoming the following 34 schools to the MYG's tag rugby event on Tuesday 11th November 2008, and is delighted to be sponsoring a Spirit of Rugby Award and Player of the Day Award. In 2007 29 schools competed at this event and we are encouraged to see this number increase this year. We wish all the schools and players the very best of luck and also wish to thank the army of volunteers who help make these events happen. Finally our thanks goes to the Medway Sports Development Team for allowing us to host this event and for their continued support for this sport and our club.

"Medway Rugby Club kindly support the Medway CPD teacher training programme by organising and running a tag rugby teacher training course for Primary school teachers prior to the Mini Youth Games Tag Rugby tournament. The course is well attended by PE Co-ordinators that have a limited knowledge of Tag Rugby and want to learn more in order to run successful after-school clubs in the build up to the tournament. The feedback from teachers for this course has been excellent, with the club coach providing excellent practical demonstrations, a variety of simple coaching drills and a full information resource for teachers to take away and use back at their school."
John Hackett, Medway Sports Development Officer
“Thank you so much for yesterday's sessions. The children came in from each session really buzzing and one boy said it was the best PE lesson they'd had. The ideas you gave me were really useful and I have already tried out some of the ideas. I really liked how everyone was involved but not necessarily all doing the same skill, i.e. running round while others did the passing. The ideas were simple but could be progressed easily once the children had grasped the basics. Your organisation was superb and you had a great way with the children”
Tamar Upton – Delce Junior School PE Co-ordinator
In addition to running the after school league the community coaching team have also delivered an “Introduction to Tag Rugby” course on behalf of Sports Development involving teachers from the following schools, St Andrews, Skinner Street, Spinnens Acre, Fort Pitt, Halling and St Benedicts. The course lasted an hour and a half and each teacher received a support pack to help them deliver the game to their schools.
As part of our ongoing support for our partnership schools Delce Junior benefited from a three hour tag rugby skills coaching course which was held at their school. The course involved all their Year 5 pupils and in all 88 children received coaching.
Further coaching support sessions in advance of the mini youth games on 11th November are also planned.
St Margarets of Rainham clinched the league title with the last game of the event. In all over 100 children took part in the league which was run as a training leagfue in preparation for the mini youth games which takes place on 11th November. Congratulations to all the teams involved. Each school received a goodie bag and memento.
