2006/07 (U6 and U7) Match Reports

On Sunday Medway’s Knights took two U7 sides and a team of U6’s to their fixture with Thames RFC and the Knights were in top form, winning all three matches.

U7s at Thames RFC (1)Medway Reds were first up against Thames and were swiftly into their stride, running up a 6-3 first half lead through Jack Bloomfield, Lewis Hollidge, Alex Harris and an excellent hat trick from Nathan Hulett, the defences were much tighter in the second half and Thames were reduced to just one more score while Medway ran in two further tries through Jack Bloomfield and Nathan Hullet, final score 8-4, not on the score sheet but putting in fine performances for the reds were Aidan Wolfe, Owen Anderson and Sam Hall.

Medway Yellows were next up for Thames, in a close and open fixture, Medway exchanged try for try with their hosts just edging the first half 3-2 with try’s from Tom Narborough, Joshua Lamb and Joshua Ehrich. The second half was closer still with 4 tries for each side, giving Medway a close but U7s at Thames RFC (2)well earned 7-6 victory, their second half scorers were Joshua Lamb, Joshua Ehrich and Sam Crean (2), playing very well and coming close to scoring themselves were James Queay, Jamie Wyndham, Charlie Stacey and Tom Underdown.

Medway’s U’6’s were also in good form, putting in a fine display of attacking running for both teams! With the home team only having 6 players, Medway’s Cullen Daly volunteered his services to the home side to even up the sides and his pace and direct running gave him and the home side two early tries, Medway hit back strongly before half time with two great solo efforts from Max Bullock. In the second half Medway kept the home side to a single score while adding two more well worked scores through Max Bullock giving Medway the victory by 4-3, putting in fine performances for Medway were Mathew Bevell, Angus Robertson, Rhys Potter, Morgan Clarke,  Mathew Limer and William Unger,

On Sunday 15th of April in a show of strength and respect from their coaches the Knights squad was split in two with no regard to 1st or 2nd teams. One squad went to the Kent Festival at Tunbridge Juddians and the other to the U7s at the Kent FestivalBarking festival in Essex. Both squads repaid this confidence by playing out of their skins and equally looking like the 1st team.

The lads at the Kent festival played 4 games winning 3 and losing 1. There was no cup to play for because the Kent RFU decided to give all the Under7's medals and just let each side play 4 games. That said if anybody deserved their medals it was the Knights who to a man tagged and ran their hearts out. They won their first game against Whistable by 5-4 followed by a narrow defeat to Canterbury by the same score line 4-5, they then showed their spirit by recovering to win their last 2 games 5-1 against Folkstone and 5-4 against Bromley. The squad that went to the Kent Festival was: Sam Crean, Lewis Hollidge, Nathan Hullet, Oliver Rees, Owen Anderson, Max Bullock, Evan Stokes, Amun Bains, Kyle Struthers, Harry Meadows and Joshua Lamb.

U7s at BarkingAt Barking the Knights battled gamely to the Final of the Cup competition and so very nearly returned with the Cup. A first match 10-8 defeat to Eton Manor would prove the deciding factor in the destination of the Cup, a good 8-6 victory in their other Group B match against Burnham-on-Crouch saw them through to a semi final against the Group A winners South Woodham Ferrers,
Medway put in an awesome defensive display that forced several errors that they punished ruthlessly to secure a decisive 9-6 win. The Final proved to be a cracker, with two evenly matched sides giving their all in the mid-day sunshine. Medway sprang swiftly from the blocks and took a half-time 3-2 lead, Eton hit back to tie the match 5-5 at the end of normal time, 4 further minutes of extra time could not split these determined sides, so with the final finishing an 8-8 draw, the cup was decided on try count back
prior to the final. With a two try advantage Eton Manor took home the Cup, but the lads from Medway left with their runners up medals around their necks and their heads held high. The Barking squad and scorers were Aidan Wolfe, Jack Bloomfield(16) Josh Ehrich(7) Tom Underdown(1), Alex Harris(5), Jamie Wyndham, Toby Robson(2), Sam Hall(1) and Tom Narborough(1)

Medway Knights win the Dorchester Festival.

While on tour to Weymouth Medway under 7's entered 2 teams into the Dorchester Festival. Both teams had a fantastic tournament with the Knights B team finishing 3rd and the Knights A team winning the cup.

The B teams results were a 5 - 1 win over Tottonians followed by a close defeat to Exeter Saracens by 6 tries to 5, these results were good enough to secure a Semi Final showdown with the Medway Knights A team, which after a brave and strong performance they eventually lost 7 tries to 4. The two losing semi finalists played off for third place with the Medway B team defeating Exeter by 4 tries to 3, thus securing a well deserved 3rd place in the Festival.

The Medway Knights B team were as follows ( Brackets after name for the tries scored ): Captain - Angus Robertson ( 1 ), Toby Robson ( 8 ), Jamie Windham ( 1 ), Sam Hall, James Quaey and Aidan Wolfe. Subs were: Joshua Lamb ( 4 ), Tom Narborough, Max Bullock, Sam Crean ( 2 ) and Jack Bloomfield ( 2 ).

U7s at the Dorchester FestivalThe A teams results were a 5 - 3 win over Blanford followed by a 6 tries to 3 win over Dorchester B getting them to the semi final in which they defeated the Medway B team by 7 tries to 4. The Final proved to be a nail biting but thrilling encounter, with Medway A's meeting the hosts Dorchester's A team. Both teams proved strong in defence, which kept the score down to 2 a piece at half time despite an early try from Lewis Hollidge followed in quick succession by another from Joshua Lamb. The second half proved just as exciting with Medway scoring two early tries courtesy of Jack Bloomfield. Medway held this lead until the final minute when the hosts finally broke through Medway's fantastic tagging defence twice to level the scores. This left Medway with seconds on the clock and one final play. The ball went through 3 sets of hands to reach Jack Bloomfield and with one of his legendary sidesteps he made the gap to sprint from the halfway line to score the final and decisive try securing the cup for Medway.

The A team squad were: Captain - Max Bullock ( 4 ), Tom Narborough ( 2 ), Lewis Hollidge ( 1 ), Sam Crean ( 3 ), Joshua Lamb ( 2 ) and Joshua Ehrich ( 1 ). The sub used in final was: Toby Robson.

The Medway Knights U7’s took two sides up to Sundays Old Colfeians Festival and for the first time they took home with them a little silverware for their efforts.

First up for Medway B were a strong Beccehamians side who took control early on and led 4-2 by half time they extended their lead with 4 more tries to Medways 1 in the second half winning 8-3, Medways tries scorers were Evan Stokes 2 and James Queay. In match 2, the Knights battled well against Blackheath, who built a strong first half lead by 5-2, Medway came back strongly winning the second half with 2 tries without reply, unfortunately for Medway the final whistle came to early for them going down 5-4., Medway’s scorers were Evan Stokes, Aidan Wolfe and Owen Anderson. Cranbrook were next up and in spite of 2 good tries form Evan Stokes and Jamie Wyndham, Cranbrook proved too strong winning this one 5-2. The final opponents for Medway B were Old Colf’s who struck early building up a 3-0 half time lead, in the second half Medway battled back well and finished strongly with tries from Tom Underdown and with his 5th try of the morning Evan Stokes, final score 4-2. Also playing well and coming close to scoring for Medway were Sam Hall and Harry Meadows.

Medway A’s first opponents were Bromley who edged the first half by 3-2 and held on to their lead in the second half winning 4-3, tries scorers for Medway were Max Bullock, Tom Narborough and Jack Bloomfield. A very slick and well drilled Brighton team were the Knights next opponents, although Medway ran in 5 tries through Jack Bloomfield 2, Sam Crean, and a brace from Max Bullock, Brighton proved too strong winning 9-5. Needing a win in their final group game the Knights delivered, with a strong performance and a 5-2 victory against Westcombe Park, with tries from Lewis Hollidge, Alex Harris, Max Bullock and 2 more for Jack Bloomfield. This victory set up a plate semi final against Old Alleynians, Medway were quick off the mark taking a 3-1 half time lead with tries from Max Bullock and Jack Bloomfield 2, in spite of a spirited fight back from Old Alleynians levelling the match 3-3, a last minute left try from Jack Bloomfield put the Knights through to their first final of the season against Old Colfeians. The final was almost a carbon copy of their semi final with Medway drawing first blood and building up a fine 2-0 half time lead, Old Colfeians hit back strongly in the second half with 2 tries of the own, fortunately for the Knights and fittingly, with his 10th try of the tournament Jack Bloomfield ran in the winning try for Medway, securing smiles all round for the journey back down the A2. Not on the score sheet for Medway but putting in fine performances were Oscar Wells and Joshua Ehrich.

U7s at London IrishOn Sunday, the Medway Knights U7’s attended the London Irish “St Patrick’s Party” Festival, where they played three group matches in the hope of topping their group and reaching the final, which was held later that afternoon at the Madejski Stadium in the half time interval of the Premiership clash between London Irish & London Wasps.

Playing on a large pitch Medway were slow out of their blocks against their first opponents Oakmedians which immediately gave their opponents the upper hand in a very close match and although Medway finished strongly the game finished 4-3 in favour of Oakmedians, Medway’s tries were scored by Joshua Ehrich, Jack Bloomfield and Nathan Hulett.

U7s at London IrishMaidenhead were the next opponents and Medway upped their defensive work considerably. With bags of enthusiasm and good tagging Medway forced the Maidenhead attack into several handling errors that created a host of opportunities for themselves. Unfortunately for the Knight’s, in spite of running in 4 tries through Lewis Hollidge, Oscar Wells and Jack Bloomfield (2), a few unforced errors of their own in the second half allowed Maidenhead back in the game and they levelled 4-4 with the last play of the game.

U7s at London IrishIn what proved to be their final match of the day, Medway took on their hosts London Irish who had a strong attack and were well drilled defensively too. The Irish took an early lead which they were never to lose and although the Knight’s battled gamely throughout the match and finished strongly with two successive tries at the end they went down to the eventual group winners  6-4, Medways scorers were Lewis Hollidge, Sam Crean and Jack Bloomfield (2), Medway’s other team members who went close to scoring were Alex Harris, Max Bullock, Toby Robson and Tom Narborough.U7s at London Irish

Medway Knights U7’s travelled down to Tonbridge Juddians on Sunday, for a fixture with their hosts and fellow travellers Crowborough, the Knights fielded two U7 sides.

Toby Robson Supported by Sam CreanThe Medway Yellows first match up was against Crowborough, playing on a very tight pitch the defences had a distinct advantage, but in the first half a combination of inventive running and excellent support play saw 9 tries scored, with Crowborough edging it 5-4 at half time. The second half was a much tighter affair as the defences kept the score down to one try each, scoring for Medway, Kyle Struthers 1 and Joshua Lamb 4. In their second game the Knights took on Tonbridge Judds A, in an equally tight and entertaining match, the Knights put on an excellent all round team performance and were unlucky to be defeated once again by a single try 6-5. The scorers for Medway in this one were Kyle Struthers 1, Aidan Wolfe 1, and another hat-trick for the player of the week Joshua Lamb. Not on the score sheet this week but coming close, Tom Underdown, James Queay, and Tom Narborough.

Medway Reds played both their matches against Tonbridge Juddians. First against the Hosts A side again on a narrow pitch defence and direct running were the keys to success. In a close first half both teams swapped score for score with Medway edging it 4 to 3 at the break. In the second half Medway tagged like mad and forced the home side into mistakes which they then capitalised on and turned into tries with Medway eventually winning the match 10 to 5. Scorers for the Reds were Jack Bloomfield with 5 tries, Sam Crean with 3, Lewis Hollidge and Toby Robson with 1 a piece.

The Reds second game was against the Hosts B team this time the match was a much closer affair. After a very even first half Medway moved into a 5 to 3 lead halfway through the second half only for the home side to come back at them again. Only fine defence and strong running from Oscar Wells, Joshua Ehrich and player of the week Toby Robson enabled the Reds to hold onto the lead and eventually win the game 6 tries to 5. The scorers in this match were Sam Crean with 1 try, Lewis Hollidge with 2 and Jack Bloomfield with 3.

Medway Knights travelled away to play hosts Sidcup and Thurrock. Fielding two sides Medway Yellows were first up against home team Sidcup, early on good support play from Jack Bloomfield gave him the opportunity to break away and score, Sidcup replied to level, before two excellent runs from joint player of the week Lewis Hollidge gave Medway a 3-1 cushion, Sidcup A once again hit back with two quick scores of their own levelled the tie 3-3 at half time. In the second half the defences ruled with neither side giving
an inch, it took a cracking run from joint player of the week Josh Ehrich to pierce the Sidcup defence to score, with time running down Sidcup managed to break through one final time to level the match 4-4. In their second match Medway gave a very polished performance against a good Thurrock team, resolute defending held Thurrock to just two scores, while a strong attacking display with excellent support play from Medway saw them run in three scores via Kyle Struthers, and two more scores from Jack Bloomfield.

Medway Blues with 4 under 6 players in their squad put up a spirited fight in their first match against a strong Thurrock side. Despite a couple of strong runs from Jamie Wyndham Medway failed to score and eventually lost the game by 3 tries to nil. In their second match the Blues met Sidcup B and continued with their fine defensive display shown in the first game, Thomas Underdown, Jamie Wyndham, Harry Meadows and Cullen Daly all standing out with their tagging displays. The game ended deservedly in a 2 - 2 draw with both the Medway tries being scored after good support play and fine individual finishes from both Cullen Daly and the blues player of the week Harry Meadows.

U7s v AshfordMedway's Under 7 Knights played hosts this Sunday to Sittingbourne and for the second week running Ashford. Medway fielded three teams A,B & C.

In a well contested match Medway A were defeated by a strong Ashford A side 5-3. Medway's try scorers were Josh Lamb, Jack Bloomfield and Sam Crean. In their second game against Ashford B, Medway's attacking display was first class as they ran in 5 tries thanks to Lewis Hollidge, Sam Crean (2) and 2 more tries from Joshua Lamb including a stunning effort from his own goal
line, which helped earn him the player of the week, he was also unfortunate not to win the game for the Knights in U7s v Ashfordthe final play of the game when he grounded the ball narrowly over the dead ball line.

Medway B, put in an excellent performance against Ashford B, defeating them by the odd score 4-3 the try scorers for Medway were Evan Stokes, Joshua Ehrich, Cullen Daly and Aidan Wolfe. In their second game Medway B were defeated by 4-2 to Sittingbourne B scoring for Medway were Nathan Hulett and with his second try of the day was player of the week Evan Stokes.

U7s v AshfordMedway C, were involved in two very tight matches, in the first they drew 4-4 with Ashford C with tries for Rhys Potter and a hat-trick for Max Bullock. Against Sittingbourne C the match finished once again 4-4, Medway's scorers in this one were Joshua Thorpe, Oliver Rees and another two efforts for Max Bullock took his total for the day to a very impressive 5 tries. Medway's Matthew Beville was awarded the player of the week for his all round polished performance.

Medway's Under 7 Knights made the short trip to Ashford for a structured development day with the home side and Tonbridge Juddians. Prior to the session all three sides joined together for a minute silence, which was held impeccably in respect to Mick Burford of Medway RFC, who very sadly died early last week. The session was finished with a few games in a mini round robin tournament. Medway entered an A, B and C side.

Medway A's first played Tonbridge with both teams putting up a fine defensive display in the first half, with some excellent tagging from Medway A's Player of the week Jack Bloomfield helping to keep the scores down to 1-1 at the break with the single try for Medway coming from Lewis Hollidge. In the second half Medway continued their excellent defensive display stopping Tonbridge scoring and capitalising on their pressure scoring 3 tries with 1 a piece for Sam Crean, Jack Bloomfield and Toby Robson. Medway A's final game was against the yet undefeated Ashford A team. Up the slope in the first half Medway battled well and kept a very strong Ashford side down to a slender 3 tries to 2 lead with the Medway scorers being Jack Bloomfield and Lewis Hollidge. Despite the advantage of the slope in the second half Medway did tire and conceded a further score without reply.

Medway B’s first match up was against Tonbridge, who got quickly into their stride taking a 2-0 half time lead, Medway were much stronger early in the second half scoring 3 tries against Tunbridge's 1 levelling the match 3-3, before two late scores in succession gave Tunbridge a 5-3 victory, Medway's scorers were Oliver Rees, Nathan Hulett and Owen Anderson. Medway B put up a strong performance against their hosts Ashford in their second game, Medway competed well with a strong performance coming from the B'side player of the week James Queay, at half time Medway trailed by the single score 2-1, the second half was contested gamely by Medway seeing them hold there own without managing to level the match, going down by 4-3, Medway's tries were scored by Oliver Rees, Nathan Hulett and Owen Anderson.

The C team which was made up solely from the U6 players did very well indeed playing both their matches against Ashford's 2 Under 6 teams, narrowly losing the first game by 4 tries to 3 and then winning the next 5 to 3. The known scorers were Cullen Daly, Rhys Potter and Max Bullock amoungst others.

U7s at BlackheathMedway Under 7's the Medway Knights had their first away trip of 2007 with a trip up the A2 to Blackheath for the New Years Cup event. Medway fielded 2 under 7's sides the Red and Yellow Knights and managed to field an under 6 side the Blues.

All 3 teams played their games solely against Blackheath the eventual winners of the Cup.

The Reds first match was against Blackheath A and were extremely unlucky to lose the game 6 tries to 5. The two teams exchanged try for try right from the kick off and the game came down to who could keep going until the final whistle and unfortunately Blackheath's bigger more physical side managed the extra push right at the end of the game to secure the win. The scorers for the Reds were Lewis Hollidge, Jack Bloomfield 2, Joshua Ehrich and Toby Robson.

U7s at BlackheathThe Reds then showed great spirit to bounce back and defeat Blackheath B by 6 tries to 2 with Sam Crean earning a player of the day award for his direct running and 2 well taken tries, the Reds other scorers were Jack Bloomfield 2, Oscar Wells and Toby Robson.  A mention also for Joshua Lamb although the only player for the Reds not on the score sheet today he came a close second for player of the day with his fine defencive and attacking play creating a number of tries.

Reds: Jack Bloomfield, Sam Crean, Joshua Ehrich, Joshua Lamb, Lewis Hollidge, Toby Robson and Oscar Wells.

Medway Yellows, first played Blackheath B in a close encounter which Medway edged at halftime by a single try 3-2, thanks to a hat trick of tries from the Yellows player of the day Alex Harris, in the second half Blackheath came back strongly and in spite of some dogged defending and a fourth try for Alex Harris Medway could not keep their lead and U7s at Blackheaththe game finished 4 tries each. In their 2nd game the Yellow’s faced a strong and well drilled Blackheath A side, who with some excellent passing and direct running took a comfortable 4-1 lead in the first half. In a closer second half Medway pulled back a try through Alex Harris but Blackheath won the game 6-2.

Yellows: Evan Stokes, Tom Narborough, Alex Harris, Tom Underdown, James Queay, Kyle Struthers, Aiden Wolfe, Jamie Wyndham.

U7s at BlackheathThe Blues Medways under 6's played a friendly against Blackheath Under 6's and were victorious by 7 tries to 5 with Max Bullock earning player of the day. It was commented from one onlooker they played more like under 10's than the under 6's they are. Every member contributed in either scoring or in a fine defencive tagging display.

Blues: Max Bullock, Angus Robertson, Cullen Daly, Amun Bains, Harry Meadows, Rhys Potter and Samuel Taylor.

U7s v BromleyMedway Knights travelled for the third week in succession to take on home side Canterbury and Bromley. Medway fielded three sides Red, Blue and Yellow.

Canterbury A were the Yellows first opponents, in a close encounter the Canterbury defence held firm under a barrage of attacks from Medway and in spite of some equally good defending from Medway, Canterbury edged the game 2-0. Next up were Bromley, in a close encounter Medway came through the victors by a single score 4-3, breaching Bromley’s defence on no fewer than three occasions to claim his hat-trick was Sam Crean, and with an excellent run from the half way line was James Queay.

U7s v BromleyFirst up for the Reds were Canterbury , in a well contested match the Reds defended well and with two cracking tries from Jack Bloomfield and a very well earned score from Alex Harris the Reds edged through by 3-2. In their second match up the Reds exchanged try for try in an entertaining 5-5 draw with Bromley, scoring for Medway were Jack Bloomfied (2) Aiden Wolfe, Alex Harris and an excellent solo score from Joshua Ehrich.

Medway Blues recorded two very good wins against Maidstone on both occasions.

The first was by 5 tries to nil and the second by 3 tries to nil. A special mention must go to Max Bullock who scored 7 of the Blues 8 tries the other being scored by Kyle Struthers and to man of the match Thomas Underdown who put up a fine defencive and strong running display.

U7s v Old ElthamiansMedway Knights made the short trip to Maidstone Rugby Club to play both Maidstone and Old Elthamians.

Due to a late start and extended training session Medway's three teams only played one game each. But all had great results.

First to play were Medway Yellow who had a fine win against Old Elthamians. Despite going a score down early on Medway's defence was excellent throughout the game and kept a strong running Eltanian side down to just 3 tries. In reply Medway scored 4 tries with 1 each for Josh Erich and Oscar Wells and 2 for Toby Robson, his second coming on the very last play to win the game. Yellows man of the match went to James Queay for his great defencive performance.

U7s v Old ElthamiansNext up were Medway Blue who despite having at least 5 under 6's on the pitch at all times lost by just 5 tries to 2 against Maidstone's Under 7's squad in a keenly contested friendly. Max Bullock got both tries for Medway with Cullen Daly and Cian Guest both going close. Mathew Beville earned the man of the match award for his alround good performance.

Last but not least Medway Red defeated Old Elthamians by 3 tries to 2. Again a great defencive display gave medway the edge in this very close game. The try scorers were Sam Crean and a brace for Lewis Hollidge. The support play from all the boys was very impressive and this along with his strong defencive work earned Nathan Hulett man of the match.

At Cranbrook Medway's U7 Knight's fielded two teams Red & Blue against the home side and fellow travellers Tunbridge Wells.

First up for the Reds were Cranbrook's Lions, in a high scoring 6-6 draw, attack won over defence in this twelve try thriller, running home tries for Medway were Joshua Lamb (2) Sam Crean (2) Lewis Hollidge and Jack Bloomfield. In a closer encounter than the scoreline suggests Tunbridge Wells's strong defence held firm as the Reds tried unsuccessfully to break though and a try in each half saw Tunbridge victorious 2-0. In their final match of the day the Reds were convincing winners against Cranbrook's Sharks
by four tries without reply with scores from Alex Harris, Joshua Ehrich, Lewis Hollidge and Jack Bloomfield, not on the score sheet for the Reds but coming close were Owen Anderson, Oscar Wells, Toby Robson and Tom Narborough.

Strong focus and determination allowed Medway Blues combined U7s & U6s to steadily improve, moving from 2 initial defeats by 4-0 against Tunbridge Wells A in their first match, then 3-1 against Cranbrook Lions with a consolation try for Medway's Max Bullock in their second, to a spirited 1-1draw in their final game against Tunbridge Wells B, Max Bullock was once again Medway's try scorer while both James Queay and Cullen Daly were unlucky with two disallowed tries. There was also strong defensive tagging
from both Kyle Struthers U7 and great support play from Rhys Potter U6, not on the score sheet but coming close were Samuel Hall, Nathan Hulett, Oliver Rees, Angus Robertson, Evan Stokes, Samuel Taylor, Thomas Underdown and Jamie Wyndham.

U7s at WindsorLast Sunday the Medway Knight’s U7’s drew their swords against home side Windsor and Drifters RFC from Farnham Common. Medway fielded two sides Red and Blue.

Playing on a full size pitch the Reds first match up was against Windsor A, the home side took an early lead before Medway fought back valiantly to level the tie 2-2 with two try’s from Jack Bloomfield, the home side proved too strong in the latter stages winning the match 5-2. In their second game against Windsor B, the Reds hit back with a cracking performance throughout, winning the match 4-3 tries from Sam Crean (2), Joshua Ehrich and a penalty try awarded after a run from Lewis Hollidge. There were many tired legs by the end of their third match against the Drifters as the large pitch took it’s toll, the match finishing a 2-2 draw, with a try a piece rounding off excellent performances from Sam Crean and Jack Bloomfield.

U7s at WindsorThe Blues came swiftly out of the blocks in their opening tie against The Drifters, taking a 2-0 lead with tries from Aiden Wolfe and Kyle Struthers, resolute defending saw the Blues through 2-1 in spite of a late consolation try for the Drifters. In Game 2 the Blues once again put in a strong performance exchanging tag for tag and try for try in an end to end battle with Windsor B, the game finishing 3-3 with tries from Alex Harris, Jack Bloomfield and a second try of the day for Kyle Struthers. In their final match the Blues battled valiantly aU7s at Windsorgainst a well drilled Windsor A, who in spite of a dogged defensive display from the Blues, came through the victors 3-0.

The Rockets won both their games with a 6 – 3 win over Canterbury and a hard fought victory over Westcliffe by 3 tries to 2. Amongst the scorers for The Rockets were Jack Bloomfield, Lewis Hollidge, and Joshua Lamb. Every member of the team managed to get one or more tags to contribute to the fine defensive play showed by the team.

The Invincibles were narrowly beaten in both their games first by Westcliffe losing by a single try with a score of 4 to 5 in favour of the away team. On the score sheet for The Invincibles were Nathan Hulet, Aidan Wolfe with a try apiece and two for Joshua Ehrich.

The Bullets met Canterbury’s strongest side in their first game and although they put up a strong defensive battle they eventually lost 4 tries to nil.

All in all a fine display of teamwork, commitment and good spirit was shown by all of the players involved and we are looking forward to the trip to Dover next week.

Last Sunday’s Medway Festival at Priestfields was the first competitive outing for the Medway Knights U7 team and the players did themselves and the club proud. Pitting their wits against strong opposition, both Red and Blue teams reached the semi final stage of their respective competitions before succumbing to defeat - the Red’s in the Cup and the Blues in the Shield.

The Reds began the day in a closely contested tussle with Old Colfeians, finally running out victors by the odd score 7-6. A bye in their second group game meant they topped their group and set up a semi final clash with Gravesend. In an even tighter encounter than their previous match both teams battled out a cracking tie, matching try for try and tag for tag right up to the final whistle, the game finally finishing tied 6-6. Unfortunately for Medway’s Reds the result meant the end of their competition going out “undefeated” on count back by a single score!

The Blues found themselves 3 tries down in the first half of their opening match against Old Gravesendians, a spirited fight back in the second half saw them close the deficit to just 1 score narrowly losing out at the finish 3-2.  In their second group game, the Blues ran out convincing winners against Gravesend II, with a resounding 6-3 victory. In their semi final with Sevenoaks they put up a spirited performance, battling right through to the final whistle, the game finishing 2-8.

Teams were – Red’s: Joshua Ehrich, Max Bullock, Lewis Hollidge, Tom Narborough, Sam Crean, Toby Robson, Oscar Wells, Jack Bloomfield.

Blue’s: Joshua Lamb, Amun Bains, Oliver Rees, Evan Stokes, Alex Harris, Nathan Hulett, James Queay, Kyle Struthers, Jamie Wyndam, Aiden Woolfe, Owen Anderson.
