Upminster B Festival

MRFC put forward both an U6s and an U7s team in last Sunday's Upminster 'B' festival.
The U6s team seemed to find their feet quite quickly considering their young age and limited game experience. They all played wonderfully with special mention going to Caitlin who after a short time got her first ever tag and then was like a woman possessed - a real tag demon! All the training showed through as the U6s team were rarely caught offside - an offence that all three other teams excelled in! And special mention to Ciaran, Matthew, Dallas & especially Owen for filling in for other teams in between their own games. Despite some questionable decisions the U6s played with real team spirit which especially showed through in the plate final when some fabulous defensive play pushed the opposition back and when we were awarded the ball through a penalty Owen only had a short hop, skip & jump to score a try & put the final score at 4-2. They all worked their socks off & coaches and parents alike are very proud of them.Try scorers were Ciaran 2, Owen 3 and Dallas 6, with highest tagging from Owen, Matthew and Dallas.
The U7s were not as successful as the U6s, playing tough games against strong teams. A half time pep talk in the first game from coach Graeme Potter saw the players come back on playing more as a team providing stronger defence and achieving a lot more tags. Overall they kept their spirits up well enduring some very strict refereeing, which had all their tries been allowed the results would have been quite different. Allowed try scorers were Rhys Potter (1), Mathew (1), Ethan (1) and William S (2).
