Medway Exiles competed in the first ever Harlequinns Touch Rugby Tournament yesterday, we left sunny Medway mid morning, in two cars & a train & headed off to a little Middlesex town you may have heard of called Twickenham.
All prepped & ready to start, the team talk was delivered by Eddie and the cheerleading led by Rob Longstaff (who can out-dance any Quinns cheerleader) and what a great start it was.
Exiles won their all their games in the group stage conceeding only one try, to make through to the semi's.
At this point we confirmed that if we won we would be awarded not only with the joy & accolade of victory, but also get to watch the following Quinns v Crusaders match from an executive box!
Spurred on by this information, during the semi's the demure Miss Vik decided that the box was definately worth a well placed tackle on an opposing players tackle - the poor lad may never father children.....
And so to the final
The game flew past in a blur with some fantastic defence by the Exiles, the whole team played fantastically and triumphed 3 tries to nil -with special mention to Mr Ellis & Ringer Rumsey!
After booting the U15's youths out of the ladies changing room the clean & shiny ladies met up with the men who could only manage a festival wash (baby wipes) or shower in a can (a quick squirt of deoderant) and headed off to our box to enjoy the game!
We all enjoyed the Quinns games, but some were a little disappointed by the looks, effort & skill of the Quinns cheerleaders. The ladies decided which player had the most attractive derriere and much frivolity continued until it was time for the one of the elders to depart with the youths, but he left us with a lingering memory. The rest of the team decided to check out some of the hospitality equipment, before heading off to The Cabbage Patch Public House for a little more refreshment.
This teams after party continued as the evening wore on, much fun was had by all* and we now look back fondly on our successful day and forward to the next challenge........

Despite an unseasonable day in May over 100 people turned up to witness the launch day of MEDWAY “touch” RUGBY CLUB.
Now in its 3rd season, 8 teams took part in one of the most up and coming sports in the UK.
The launch Day sees the official opening of Touch Rugby being played at Medway Rugby club, Priestfields Rochester.
Three teams of mixed sexes and ability participated in the group stages of the competition.
The Pretty Reckless, Old Touchonians and Medway Exiles.
Old Touchonians narrowly losing to Lamb Reconstituted.com. A team made up from former and serving members of HM forces. Met each other in the armoured plate final. With our helpful heroes winning 3-2.
Medway Exiles unbeaten throughout the group stages played host to the Development Squad in the Launch Day final.
The Development Squad, (fresh from last months display against Bath at Twickenham), came out all guns blazing scoring two quick touch downs which left the Exiles chasing much of the game. Although they managed to reply late on, the Dev. Sq. scored again and became Launch Day Champions.
The Pretty Reckless. Had a tall order if they were to qualify from the group stages. However they got off to a thumping start melting the Cheesy Champions in their very first game together. Winning 4-0.
Their celebrations were short lived losing to the plate winners and the overall competition winners in their next two games.
For the Cheesy Champs its not the winning but the taken part. They proved worthy opposition in the group stages but too many holes, not enough body and lack of maturity saw them being put through the cheddar reaching their sell by date early.
For the Vets. They will be happy with their performance. Once the wrinkles were ironed out and their bags emptied, the Vets relied on the home help of the youth section to prop them up, change their dentures and make it to the semis.
For the next few weeks touch rugby will be played every Wednesday evening from 7pm at Medway Rugby club. The Pro Touch and Semi Pro Touch Leagues start 2nd June and will last for 8 weeks. If the Launch day is anything to go by we are all infor a treat and a lot fun!
Due to the ever increasing amount players playing Touch Rugby at Priestfields, we have decided to make our Wednesday nights a bit more structured.
This was due to take place after Launch Day 2010.
This time last year we had approx. 20 plus playing Touch Rugby. Since Our return to Priestfields last month, we have been averaging between 60 and 70 people on Wednesday nights.
In order for you to get the maximum enjoyment of playing Touch Rugby at MEDWAY “ touch” RUGBY CLUB we will set up three pitches,
Pro Touch, Semi Pro Touch, and Social Touch.
Social Touch is aimed at individuals who have little or no experience playing Touch Rugby.
Pro pitch and Semi Pro Pitch will consist of having three teams. 2 on 1 off. The team currently sitting out will provide a referee.
This is a great opportunity for the Level 1 and 2 refs amongst us to blow away some cob webs.
Only you can decide on which level of Touch Rugby you can play.
And yes the sun always shines on Touch Wednesday

The first Medway Touch Rugby training session at Priestfields for 2010 took place on 24th March under the floodlights. Once again someone seems to have told the weatherman that touch is back home, as we started the season in a balmy 14 degrees with just a gentle cooling light breeze.
It was a fantastic start , with around 50 attendees - which were split into 6 teams enabling 3 games on the go for most of the night.
The mix of players was as diverse as it could be, from die hard players that had played through the winter, team members from last season and some very welcome new faces.
There were some interesting moves on display, special mentions to Jason "Big Bum" Russell, Jane "Did you see me run?" Wadhams & Socks "I got past Tony" Cheeseman all had a memorable evening.
We're going to do it all again next Wednesday, so come along for a run out, same time - same place, only this time it will still be light - thanks to the clocks going forward this weekend!

Introducing the Semi Pro League; Those new to Touch Rugby, and those not so new to Touch will have the chance to play a less competitive game if they want to.
However, the words fun and enjoyment will portrait across both leagues making MEDWAY“touch”RUGBY a great way to participate in what is arguably the fastest growing sport in the UK.
In its first season MEDWAY“touch”RUGBY CLUB finished third in the Medway Sports Awards after being nominated for best club. With over 200 members its organisers aim was to get as many mums and dads relations etc, who have spent the rugby union season on the side lines cheering their off spring, and get them involved in adult participating sport.
Last year MEDWAY“touch”RUGBY CLUB became North Kent Champions in the very first winter festival held in Erith seeing off teams from London and the Kent region.
