A tough test for the under 14s

All friends after the game
- Duncan Haynes

This weekend saw the improving under 14s take on an experienced Dartfordians team at home, a real step up in opposition from their opening games.

Medway started quickly taking the ball up to the opposition try line before an unfortunate turnover led to a breakaway try for Dartfordians. Medway conceded another try before Ola Fencek hit back, and with Amelia Massey adding the conversion finished the quarter trailing 7-10.

The second quarter was tough with sides running hard at each other, Medway conceded another two tries but scored another as Phoebe Elliot Bloomfield scorched past the Darts defense, again converted by Amelia, to end the half down 14 points to 20.

The second half was hard fought by both teams with several Medway girls receiving knocks although nothing too serious. In the third quarter Medway scored another try courtesy of Phoebe and converted by Alex Turner, unfortunately Darts responded with another two of their own to go into the final quarter leading Medway 21 to 32. The girls gave their all in the final quarter with Amelia going over the line at close quarters, however Darts were able to run in another two tries to leave the final score Medway 26 Dartfordians 44.

The Medway girls were naturally a bit disappointed but this has passed by the time they left the changing rooms. They gave a great account of themselves with new players developing and all getting stuck into the game, coaches and parents proud of the effort and team spirit on display. Special mention to our players of the match chosen by the opposition. Forwards Player Ashleigh Ellis for a barnstorming performance and Phoebe Elliot Bloomfield for that electrifying pace.
