This Friday saw our under 16s take part in a special fixture played under the lights, taking on two teams including the long awaited game against Malmo all the way from Sweden.

This had been long in the planning since they contacted us asking we could play them as part of their tour last year. Of course we said yes but once in the hands of Louise and Bobby Ellis (mainly Louise :-) this was never going to be a standard fixture. Once the FNL was agreed we invited our friends from Ashford to make it a round robin, and then it became the first girls section halloween party, featuring fancy dress and DJ, with the clubhouse transforming into a spooktacular venue.

First up was Medway v Malmo two very contrasting teams, Medway with forward power and running backs against the pure pace of Malmos 7s and 10s specialists. The game was breathless as each team gave it everything cancelling each other out for much of the time with line breaks and ferocious tackling. Medway struck first as Ashleigh dived over the line before converting her own try. This looked to have sealed the win until the last minute when Malmo broke free to score their own converted try. All in all a fantastic game with draw the right result.

Next up Medway V Ashford after a five minute break the girls could be forgiven for being off the pace but the dominated throughout attacking hard and defending with determination. Medway ran in three tries from Freya, Sophie C and Poppy while Ashford could not break through the Medway defense.

The final game featured Malmo and Ashford where the pace of the Malmo girls was too much for Ashford seeing them win convincingly.

There followed the epic party as the girls joined forces on the dance floor to dance the night away. New friendships made and the spirit of rugby on full display all around. Maybe we'll play them again in Sweden one day................

Special thanks to Louise Ellis for all of the arrangements, the bar staff for giving up their Friday and to Nick Timothy for the photos. https://instagram.com/ntimothy__photos?vrfl=d2NuazI1OTJ3a2Fl&utm_source=qr
