The new season kicked off for the under 14 girls and so of course it must be raining! There was a great turn out from the squad with 25 players coming out to play, this allowed us to lend players to our friends from Ashford who unfortunately had only been able to muster 13 players. A huge thanks to all of the girls who took a turn in playing against their teammates. It really does show the true spirit of rugby.
As this was the first game of the season we had agreed to divide the game into quarters rather than halves and the girls were keen to get cracking. However it was Ashford who struck first scoring a try courtesy of one of the on loan players Amy Head making a storming run to cross the line. However Medway then got into their stride and struck back with two tries from Imogen Lewis ending the quarter 10 - 5 ahead.
The second quarter was saw Medway extend their lead as the girls carried on putting all that pre-season training into practice. They scored two further tries with Chloe Kimble and Imogen Lewis crossing the line, Ashleigh Ellis adding the conversions. Ashford scored again to end the first half 25 - 12 to Medway.
The third quarter was a tighter affair with both teams playing some good rugby, but Ashleigh went over for try which she also converted, we headed into the final quarter 32-12.
The final quarter became one sided as Medways fitness started to tell, all that preseason paying off as Medway ran in three unanswered tries from Sophie Denny, Ashleigh and India Gilbert. Conversions kicked meant that the final score was a hefty victory of 49 - 12 Medway.
This was a great start to the season and the coaches and parent were justifiably proud of the girls. Special mentions to our players of the match - Forwards Imogen Lewis, Backs Ashleigh Ellis and Coaches Chloe Kimble.
Cant wait to travel to Thanet next week #lovedandfeared
