Last Sunday saw almost the whole girls section travel to RAF Halton near Oxford for what has become an annual fixture in our calendar. The largest girls rugby festival in the UK with over 1000 girls taking part. Since we are the largest girls section in the UK right now it seems like the place for us to be!
The event is and early start needing to be there before 08.00 and with so many of us there from the different age groups there was a tour vibe among the Medway contingent. For the under 14s we had so many girls available that we decided to take on the challenge of entering two teams to give them all as much game time as we possibly could. That meant that between them Medway Scarlets and Medway Golds had four games each to try and reach the knockout stages.
Both teams worked really hard all day playing some great rugby both in attack and defense scoring some great tries and putting in awesome tackles. Scarlets won two of their games and lost the two while won 1, drew two and lost 1 of their games. This meant that neither team would automatically qualify for the knockout stages but might get in as highest third place in their groups. After a nervous half hour wait unfortunately neither team made it through. They may have been a bit disappointed but really the results were secondary to the day spent playing with and supporting their teammates, getting faces painted, exploring the woods and generally having fun. We will definitely be back next year.
A huge thank you to our parents for making such a long trip for such a long day, and for helping us get the girls to their games on time, without you these things simply don't happen. And thank you to the girls for being their fun loving slightly nutty anarchic selves we wouldn't have you any other way!
