This weekend our under 14s headed off to Canterbury where we had entered two teams Medway Scarlets and Medway Golds. It was an early start to a rugby club full of girls looking forward to a great of rugby. With a total 6 games to play this was going to be a long day.
Getting things under way was the Golds who faced a tough opener against a TJs team who would eventually play in the cup final and they battled hard throughout game but unfortunately were on the wrong side of the 43-0 scoreline. There were plenty of positives for the games to come, they just needed to find their groove.
The Scarlets started their campaign with a game against BAS and clicked quickly with great running, offloading and ferocious tackles from the girls. The scoring rate was rapid as the girls racked up points winning by 50 - 0 to get off to a flying start.
After a break for snacks and messing about the Golds were in action again against Ashford and put on a much better display as they started to find their feet and get their game plan going. They passed and ran well scoring two tries int the game, unfortunately Ashford were also hitting their stride ran in 28 points to take the game.
The Scarlets were also having a difficult game and seemed to lose their way during their second game against Dartfordians. They could not manage to get a foothold in the game with Dartfordians running in the victors by 47 - 17 by the end of the game.
By now the games were coming thick and fast with parents and players walking back forth to the different pitches to cheer both teams and their teammates on. Golds faced the new cluster team of Canterbury and Sheppey and again improved their performance level as the group gelled and put together some excellent play to score 12 points. The opposition however managed to come out on top as the bounce of ball went against Medway wining by 24 - 12.
The third game for scarlets was against Beccs Valley and it turned into a breath taking encounter as the teams traded scores and through everything at each other in attack and defense. The game was equal at 12-12 until the last couple of minutes when Medway ran clear to finish the winners 26-12.
