After the chastening defeat on Friday night the girls could be forgiven for being a bit down hearted, but they arrived full of enthusiasm early on Sunday morning ready for the next challenge.
As the game got under way it was soon clear that this would be a very different game. The forwards soon achieved dominance over the opposition in open play and in the scrums. This allowed the backs to cut loose with the kind of free running that they enjoy as gaps were found and exploited setting up tries from close in and from full length sweeping moves that showed superb pace and support running. The girls scored 5 unanswered tries in the first half Ashleigh Ellis 1, Freya Haynes 1, Annabelle Hilton 1 and Sophie Clark 2. They ran into half time leading 25-0.
The second half continued in a similar fashion as once again they dominated possession and territory as the forwards crashed through defenders and the backs found the gaps to run free and score with a regularity that seemed relentless. 7Wells rallied and managed to score three tries of their own in such an open half but it was not enough to draw close as Medway ran in another six! Try scorers Imogen Lewis 1, Ashleigh Ellis 3 plus 1 conversion, Annabelle Cooper 2, Poppy Hudson 1 conversion. The final score 17-67 in favour of Medway.
This win will boost confidence ahead of our last waterfall league game next week and the girls can feel rightly proud of themselves. Special mention to the girls that filled in for the opposition and enabled the game to be played in full showing the real spirit of rugby. Lillie Cane, Anastasia Cook, Senna Merrick, Layla Mansfield, Bella Wharton and Ellie Desmond. Special mention also to our players of the match, Forwards Anastasia Cook, Back Sophie Clark and Managers Leysha Johnson showing such great courage in her first game.
Thanks as always to our parents for making the trip for the second time in a weekend - without you it simply doesn't happen.
