There is a saying among surfers that the best surfer in the world is the one who is having most fun. Remember this is its important.

The Medway Under 12 girls headed to their first Waterfall Festival in Deal on Sunday after several weeks of not being able to train or play together fully while waiting for permissions for our year 6 players to come through. For several of our new players this was their first taste of competition and all of the girls were exited and looking forward to the occasion. Even the promised rain held off.

Due to a team dropping out at the last minute Medway found themselves in a much tougher group than expected facing off first against Tonbridge Juddians a much more experienced and physically bigger team. The girls put on a spirited display in defence but were well beaten without scoring a try. Their second game came against Dartford Valley who again boasted a more experienced team made up of very physical players and while they played well the missed training and less experience took its toll and they lost the game without scoring a try. However in both games the girls showed great spirit and improvement in their play.

The final game was against Ashford/Sidcup and was a much more evenly matched affair. The Medway girls suddenly clicked, executing the skills that they have been learning over the last few weeks in attack and defence, getting onto the front foot. After a thoroughly enjoyable game they ran in having won the game 4 tries to 2 and were justifiably delighted.

The Medway under 12s are a new team who have very quickly come together as firm friends and clearly love playing rugby together. Anyone who was witness to the fun and shenanigans in between games and after the event would have to conclude that they had the most fun and are therefore the best in the world!
